Some Rules To Posting Free Ads On Classified Sites!
By: Kristi Ambrose

I always like to think that there is a specific way you should be "acting" on any kind of a site - especially if you are a business professional. If you are posting as an individual that has a company or business then you really NEED to look as professional as possible. It doesn't matter if you are selling tires or diamond rings - people depend on being able to read your ad and read it clearly in order to figure out what you are selling, why you are selling it and what it can do for them IF they buy the product, item or service.

Just today, I was on a free classifieds site looking for a set of rims for my car and I noticed that a lot of these ads posted by auto mechanics are barely legible. While it may not seem important to write your ad legibly -- it is! Here are a few rules you should take a look at:

1- Make your ad descriptive, but not so long that it makes people walk away! Yes, it's important to let people know what you are selling and what it looks like or why people might need to buy it. However, when a few paragraphs becomes a few pages? It's going to make people not even read it! I have seen a few sites online that let you post free ads and people really take advantage of this. More is not always better, sometimes less IS more! Don't bore people. Give them the specifics - who, what, where, why and when. And leave your information in the ad so they can contact you!

2- Be sure to be grammatically correct. As said above, I know a lot of people that don't think this is important. But then there are people like me that see a poorly written ad, and I walk away. I don't care if you are going to give me a billion dollars, if I can't read the ad I really could care less WHAT you can give me. Make sense. Spell things correctly.

3- Be professional. If you have an ad online for a Lawyer service don't use words like "yo" or "youse". Even if you are trying to be funny, I still wouldn't do this. You have to remember this is the Internet! People can't hear you joking around, they don't see you laughing in the background! So just try to be as professional as possible.

4- Post free ads doesn't mean spam free ads. Try to find the correct category for you specific niche. So if you are selling a cellphone post your free ads in the electronics section. If you offer a writing service, post the ads in the Writing Service or Publishing section of the site! This is not only going to guarantee your ad will stay up longer, but it's also going to find targeted people. No sense in selling a cell phone in a vitamin or health category!

5- Make your ad unique! This isn't really a rule as much as a suggestion. If you visit a free classifieds site you will oftentimes notice that everyone's ads are exactly the same! White background, black arial font. Booooring! Spruce it up! There are a lot of free classified sites online that will have a Rich Text Editor that will allow you to change fonts, colors, backgrounds, add pictures, add links, etc. Just don't make it too colorful - neon's equals NO!

In addendum to number five, there are also sites online that are free which will allow you to put all of your information into a form and it will produce an html code for you which will allow you to paste it into the free ads section of the form for the classified site you are at. As long as the free classifieds let you post html codes you can use these ad creators or ad generators to spruce up your ad and make it look unique!
